Her practice of working onsite in regional and natural environments has earned her international recognition and numerous awards, positioning her as a respected voice in contemporary plein air painting.
SUSAN GIBLIN, based in Atlanta, returns to William Ris Gallery for her second exhibition following last year’s highly praised and successful debut. Known for her nuanced approach to pointillism, Susan’s mixed media work has resonated strongly with Northeast collectors, further establishing her growing reputation.
BEN TURLEY offers a compelling, linear interpretation of the landscape. His compositions—rendered in a variety of shapes and sizes—explore pattern, structure, and spatial rhythm, creating a distinctive visual experience that bridges abstraction and representation.
FLOWERS / OCEAN - Opening Reception
In this series of abstract photographs, Miller uses flowers to capture their visual essence rather than render their botanical detail in order to arrive at their pure color, light, and form. Her abstract images of the ocean were taken with similar formal concerns: the blurred movement of waves contrasted with the sharp calligraphic drawing created by sunlight glinting off the rushing waters. In both series she invites the viewer into a space of contemplation and surprise, offering an ethereal, atmospheric, sensual and visually stunning experience. I am drawn to what is fleeting, whispered, and magical.
Sara Cedar Miller has been a fine art photographer for decades and has exhibited widely. She had a book of her work,Sara Cedar Miller, published by Blue Sky Gallery funded by the National Endowment for the Arts. Until her retirement, Miller was the photographer and historian of Central Park for the Central Park Conservancy for forty years and has written and photographed the Park in four celebrated books.
Miller cares deeply for her Hampton Bays residence and the natural beauty of East End of Long Island. She is a proud member and supporter of the Peconic Land Trust that works to save threatened Long Island working farms, natural lands and its heritage. Miller and William Ris Gallery will be donating a portion of sales to benefit the Peconic Land Trust.
North Fork Narratives: Anthony Russell
The William Ris Gallery is pleased topresent “North Fork Narratives”, a solo exhibition featuring the works of Anthony Russell, opening on Saturday, July 12 with a reception from 4 to 7 PM.
Inspired by the rural charm and rich character of the North Fork of Long Island, Anthony’s latest body of work captures the unique spirit of this celebrated 30-mile stretch. From weathered barns and sprawling vineyards to the iconic carousel in Greenport and the historic boatyards, Anthony offers a fresh, imaginative lens on the familiar landmarks and coastal vistas that define the East End.
In addition to his dynamic landscapes, “North Fork Narratives” includes a series of intimate still life paintings. These thoughtfully composed tablescapes, featuring antiques, collected artifacts, and nostalgic mementos, reflect the artist’s fascination with storytelling through object and place.
As both a travel destination and home to a vibrant year-round community, the North Fork serves as a rich source of inspiration for Anthony Russell’s artistic exploration of memory, heritage, and the passage of time. Join us at William Ris Gallery to celebrate this evocative tribute to the people, places and enduring charm of the North Fork.
